the book did not end how i thought it was going to

This is one of my absolute favorite books, so I couldn’t not review it on here. It’s a short book but absolutely stocked full of impeccable detail and emotion. Lucy Christopher did a superb job with this book. You can’t help but relate to how the character feels throughout her predicament. I’ve read this book about a million times and couldn’t recommend it more. The only thing I was upset about is the ending, I hear she’s possibly going to make a second book to this one so

Gemma is abducted and taken to a foreign country by a man who has been watching her for years and feels they have a special connection. She fights and fights to escape her captivity from the desert compound he has built in Australia's Outback. Good, but didn't feel as developed as other kidnapping stories.
dark sad medium-paced

This was a great listen and reminder that YA matters. The story was so well told, and it really made you start worrying once you get halfway through. I can see this being made into a Lifetime movie ha

When I read this book in 2009 I was fully on board for this CHILD to kiss the civilized world goodbye and fall in love in the outback with her adult captor because he was a little bit tortured and charismatic. And folks, that’s why it is so important to have a fully developed frontal lobe before making any consequential romantic decisions.

I heard great reviews of this book. I was not thrilled as I thought I would be. still decent read.

I'm still upset about the camel

This book was so twisted, dark, and weird. But at the same time, it was very good. The writing was beautiful, even lyrical at times. I loved how the land seemed to be a main character in this book- it just integrated itself into a prominent role of the story.
Gemma got on my nerves sometimes. I understand her need to escape, but I feel like she should've thought it through first... I disliked how weak she was sometimes, but it's understandable in her scenario. Ty was a twisted man. I fail to see how he can work up so much emotion for Gemma just by stalking her, yet the writing made the story believable. Also, it feels slightly pedophilic because this guy is almost ten years older than her, and while he never pushes her to do anything that she doesn't want to, he loves her undoubtedly.
I feel like the ending is abrupt. It left me searching for so much more (what happens with Gemma, and what happens to Ty, namely). I understand that that's not what the book is about, but even a short epilogue would leave me feeling more satisfied.
This book is not for everyone, but I enjoyed it.
