The beginning was so tedious (similar to Turtles in The Coworker) in regards to IVF, miscarriages. Not trying to sound callous. Just went on too long. The main story was good. Ending was tied up with a neat bow.

This book was long, way longer than it needed to be. It’s obvious a lot of work and care went into creating this book, it just didn’t hit any of the right notes for me.
The characters were flat and many of their thoughts, actions, and responses had me rolling my eyes. It is one of my biggest book pet peeves when there is a main character who everyone is just falling over how wonderful and beautiful they are, but that very character hasn’t been giving any redeeming or charming qualities besides “strength.” I mean, Olivia is rude out of the gate to almost everyone she interacts with. I know, I know, those pesky pregnancy hormones. But in an effort to shed light on the plight of pregnancy and infertility, every negative interaction gets to be explained away by hormones?
One more little thing that just drives me crazy, is when every single character is wildly successful in the most challenging industries to break into. A photographer for National Geographic? An interior designer for the wealthy elite? A ghost author who churns out best selling books on his summer vacation? Everyone just has these huge, fabulously extravagant homes but they skimp on their home security? Really?
I wanted to put this book down and stop reading several times. I didn’t care about any of these people or their problems, which is just a laundry list of deceit and vanity. I read it, I enjoyed about 10%, but this book was not for me.
