May is a young Aboriginal girl who goes to live with her aunt after her mothers death. Poetic but a difficult narrator voice. Stark in its representation of a disadvantaged adolescence.

What an amazing collection of entwined short stories. Along the themes of discovery, identity, family and belonging, and told from an Australia First Nations perspective, there is so much in this that I think every First nations person who reads it will be able to relate to. This has been on my to read list forever (along with her other books) so I'm really glad as I try desperately to meet my 2021 reading goal this book got prioritised.
