Dull, with unpleasant sentences.

every day i log on here and talk about forster’s style. god this is so pretty even when i disagree with forster. even the lower class here is the gentility, forster says the statistician can deal with the lower classes, this story does not care about them. that is a direct paraphrase not a romeism. still, the image of the books crushing leonard SO funny and helen and margaret’s liberal idealism like. makes me mad because love SHOULD be our philosophy for the world! but they assume someone else will do all the love for them! KNIFE anyways it was good but as always im judgy

Once I got into this book, I became enamored with the characters even if the style of writing and relating was much more distant than I was used to. The way the characters loved was left out of the writing, and when it was discussed it was formal and proper. But the surprise near the end reeled me as much as it did the characters. (And as always, the book is better than the movie.)

A period piece about life before WWI, written before WWI. The story was a simple life drama and ultimately it was an ok, if simple story.

I had no idea that this was a ghost story disguised as a romance!

E.M. Forster is a unique writer--no one can wax poetic about human nature quite like he can, and his plot pacing is always odd. Yet no other male writer quite captures the problems of early 20th century femininity like he does. His heroines are quirky without being caricatures, and always seem to make the perfect balance of right and wrong decisions.

This is also a tad bit spooky! There are a few similarities to [a:Daphne du Maurier|2001717|Daphne du Maurier|https://d2arxad8u2l0g7.cloudfront.net/authors/1422444467p2/2001717.jpg]'s [b:Rebecca|17899948|Rebecca|Daphne du Maurier|https://d2arxad8u2l0g7.cloudfront.net/books/1386605169s/17899948.jpg|46663], but this book is much more light-hearted, and Forster's wit is oh so snappy.
