I found it totally unrealistic that Val would go from learning what the letters in LGBTQIA+ mean and learning about the concept of bisexuality , to reading about critical race theory in like a week? And then after a lifetime of expectation that her first kiss be on her wedding day , she goes from first kiss to suggesting that she and Riley shower together on the same day? I couldn't get past it. So that part being not super feasible, plus the frequent paddling of Ezekiel being so upsetting, made me want to put the book down. So I did!

Much like I Kissed Shara Wheeler, this is a book I wish I would've had growing up in an evangelical house(not fundie thank god). The religious deconstruction and coming to terms with your sexuality not being a sin is definitely something I recognized from my own teens and 20s.
