So here's my thing about the Lady Sherlock series: most of the time I have trouble following what's happening in terms of the mystery. I don't think this is the author's fault—I think Thomas writes very clever, complex mysteries that involve a lot of characters and details that I don't always make note of.
And yet...I so enjoy the experience of reading these books! The writing—particularly the dialogue—is so melodious and witty. I love watching Charlotte navigate a world set against her, and I really appreciate the brief interludes where we get to inhabit other characters' POVs.
A Conspiracy was an excellent sequel, though the mysteries felt slightly less compelling than in Scarlet Women. I'm eager to see where Thomas takes Charlotte & Co. next!
