There where parts in this story that where really slow and slightly confusing, but the further the story went the more I started to like it.

Bullet Review:

DNF at page 84 or Chapter 10.

Back in 2011, this was made available to me via Amazon Vine. It's been so long that I basically no longer have to review this for the program - so basically reading and reviewing this is 100% irrelevant. Especially since Rossi has not only finished this trilogy (of course it's a trilogy), but she's also started at least one other trilogy.

Since my views have zero impact, no one will care that I think this is basically yet another Generic Young Adult *Insert Popular Genre of the Minute* book, in the stack amongst other "Super original" books (some of which I didn't mind) like The Adoration of Jenna Fox, Ready Player One, Everneath, Replica, Incarceron, Tempest, Unraveling, Across the Universe, Cinder, Divergent, Shatter Me, Arclight, Delirium, Blood Red Road, the 100 (whose TV series is FAR SUPERIOR and I couldn't help but compare this book to constantly) and even the original YA dystopia that kicked off this whole thing, Hunger Games. Let's also toss in some Eragon (YES Paolini's book!), Hush, Hush, Eyes Like Stars, Unspoken, GLOW, City of Bones into the pot as well. Before you know it, I have read this book or these characters so. many. times already that I really don't have the patience (or really the reason) to bother finish reading this mediocre book. (NOTE: I didn't even include any of the self-published or indie authors, because I don't want anyone to think I may be in the slightest "punching down".)

Now that said, I mean, this isn't the absolute WORST out there. I mean, I got nearly 25% through the book and there wasn't a romantic triangle in sight! As I read, it did make me think of the impressive TV series, the 100, which a dear friend of mine got me hooked on and which now keeps me on the edge of my seat. Not to say that this is good because it reminds me of the 100 - just that it made me think, "Well, the 100 did it well, why is this not working?"

But on its own merits, I don't really see anything to keep me reading. I'm not expecting every book to give me something 100% new that I've never seen before, but I am asking for something to make the readers turn the pages and come back to your world. I don't care about the characters (the best friend of Aria basically dies in the first 25 pages and the mother who Aria is hunting for is never seen); the world building is a jumble of at least 7 different ideas; the split perspective is strange.

Full review...maybe...maybe not

Oh my god! I absolutely loved this book. Seriously this may have just become my new favorite book of 2012. I picked this up at the library due to the fact that I won an ARC of the sequel without realizing this book came first. And boy am I glad I won the sequel because I probably would never have discovered this amazing book. I am pretty new to the dystopia genre and every book I've tried recently I have loved, but this one just takes it to a whole new level. A sky that kills you? Yes please!

I loved the world in this novel. Outside of the pods that the dwellers live in the people who live on the outside, who the dwellers call savages, have little tribes and survive the best they can. It's a world that can one minute provide you with the food and water to sustain you and the next take your life. The people live in fear of the Aether and do their best to survive.

The characters were great and really likeable. Aria was a weak person in the beginning but quickly becomes a very independent and strong character. She's witty and sarcastic and doesn't take anybody's crap. There is also Peregrine. The outsider who appears rough and uncaring on the outside but harbors a deep need to help everyone he can and deals with a deep guilt that tears him apart. I fell in love with him, he's just so caring and strong and awesome. There is also his best friend Roar who we get introduced to near the end of the novel, he's sarcastic and funny and I think he loves himself but isn't obnoxious about it.

The plot of this story never slows down or gives you a minute to become bored. It's fast paced and packed with action. The struggles that the characters go through really tug at your heart and have you feeling the emotions they feel.

Do I recommend this novel? Yes, if you haven't read this one yet go out and get yourself a copy or borrow it from the library. You will not regret this novel.

This book was very good, quick read and fun. I loved the characters and found the world very complex and interesting. However, it felt lacking and not fully explored. I'm sure future books can fix this issue, but for now, good start.

Love the ship. Also excited to see the story continue. Actually didn't see that ending coming, which doesn't happen to often for me, so huge plus!

I do think I would have liked this book a lot more had a read it after THG, Divergent, TMR, etc. but still enjoyable!

I absolutely loved this book. It took me a while to get into it, because it was one of those books I picked up, because it sounded kind of interesting and the cover was gorgeous. As soon as the action started, however, I couldn't stop reading. This book is packed with action from beginning to end!

I really fell in love with characters in this book. Peregrine was my favorite with Aria running a close second, which is rare for me. Not often do I choose the main characters in a book as my favorite.

The character of Cinder was the most fascinating to me and with the second book, which I really hope there will be, because it sure seemed like there should and would be, I hope to find out more about him! More specifically his amazing abilities.

The way Veronica used Senses in this book really pulled me in. Peregrine's abilities are fascinating and I really loved how he used them.

I can't wait to read more books from this author!

an excellent novel that had me keep turning the pages to find out what was going to happen next between Perry and Aria. I can't wait for the next book.
