i can’t seem to find volume 1, but i read that too!

this is just a good example of a comic i feel like i can allow myself to enjoy because it’s fun. there’s a underwater royalty element, and it’s a post-rebirth modern day comic. i’m happy it’s consistent and interesting.

Solid follow-up to a strong start with this series. Juggles diplomatic tension between Atlantis/America, JL/America, and JL/Atlantis. He is always the diplomat, frequently all alone on his own side.

Messier than the previous volume. When it’s good it’s very good when it’s bad it’s prophesies, a couple not talking to each other properly and the Shaggy Man.

I'M SOLD

Pretty much thinking that Aquaman should get his own origin movie. Especially so if Jason Mamoa is the lead. JUST SAYING

I was excited to pick this up because I read Mera: Queen of Atlantis recently and wanted to know more about what was going on in the main storyline. Arthur has so many issues as he goes back and forth between not letting his people and the surface world hate him more. The US thinks that Atlantis is hostile because N.E.M.O is framing them for attacking the surface. But Arthur and his team are struggling to figure out what is going on.

Being a king is so tough as he has to balance all his relationships and advocate for little violence even though the other side is intent on hurting him and his people. I did like how they help out in Amnesty Bay to rebuild

Mera has her own issues as well and this is the first time I see their relationship struggle. She hears of a prophecy from the Widowhood

that she will bring destruction if she becomes queen of Atlantis and this leads her to step back and hide her thoughts from Arthur. Well, the situation is not ideal for them to have a long talk either because he is badly injured and trying to keep his kingdom from being destroyed. I do hope I will get to see them married.

How cute are they?

The art in the issues was nice to meh.

Black Manta is not stopping in his hate campaign against Aquaman and N.E.M.O gives him more resources to get Arthur in trouble fast. I wished that the Justice League were more trusting in Arthur when the attacks happen. Why would he launch an attack when he just saved his home town?

There were so many fights and big battles in this volume that I am not sure how the next one is going to be as enjoyable.

Wow, I felt like this was a great story. Dan told a great political thriller in the Aquaman world. The one point I thought was cliche was Mera going to the Temple and all this drama happening about the wedding. Le Sigh. The rest of the story was inspired and so much fun to read. This might be the best volume of Aquaman I have read; it's possible.

I enjoyed Superman's role in the story as Diplomat for Arthur and Atlantis. I wasn't sure if the Justice League was going to fight Aquaman or not, but it was all handled so well. That Black Manta is a helluva character. He is one of the great villains out there. He is psycho. Still, many Americans and Atlantians died in this story. That's a brutal world.

I can't wait for the next one. This story is simply amazing. More Aquaman please.

A marginal improvement over the previous volume. Still... at 200 pages this felt like it went on forever and it wasn't until halfway in where I started getting interested with any sort of seriousness.

Again, as with the first volume, this is just not the sort of story I'm interested in right now. Superheroes vs superheroes or superheroes at odds with the government is a bit overdone right now.

For a book that had Black Manta in the title, he really didn't do much in this book and was more interesting in the first volume. Black Manta didn't so much rise as he... mostly was in the background. It was more about N.E.M.O. than him.

This is far from the worst Rebirth book but I won't be looking forward to reading anymore of it.

Aquaman can be a really good title. This is an enjoyable read, it’s tired at times but there are some really good moments when Arthur decides to act. I love Arthur and Mera together and when they are together acting with one another this comic is really solid. But they spend a large part of this volume apart.

Mera here is not great. Not Mera herself but her storyline, it focuses too much on a prophecy and feels forced.

While I like the Justice League showing up it happens one to many times so it feels like they’re trying to get people to read the title.

The art is consistent, but is not great some faces look very rough.

Oh and Arthur solves the problem in 5 minutes very suddenly at the end, feels off.

Also Superman when underwater wears a breathing mask and it confuses me. Not a big issue but a weird one.

This is an alright volume that has moments of really good stuff.

3 stars.
