I enjoyed this book for the most part but it definitely didn’t meet my expectations after the first book.
I felt like the majority of part 1 was filler which introduced a few new characters just to kill them off, which ultimately made it difficult for me to care about any other new characters introduced for the remainder of the book.
Violet and Xaden’s entire relationship seemed to be based on the classic miscommunication and secrets (you didn’t tell / you didn’t ask ) trope which wore thin after a while.
Also, what is the point in including a map if it isn’t going to include any of the names of the new cities introduced in the book? My ADHD brain cannot comprehend where Cordyn or Samara is in relation to the rest of the map without a visual.

Really flopped hard here. I had fun with the first book and was excited for more of the world building but man was this hard to get through. Guess the whole dragon school/ enemies to lovers plot was carrying more than I thought. Also so classic that Xaden is a mind reader. I do love this fantasy trope for female authors.
