Lords of Finance: 1929, The Great Depression, and the Bankers who Broke the World by Liaquat Ahamed
nikita_barsukov's review
5.0
Unique example of a book on economic history that is
a) easy to read, no hardcore jargon at all
b) yet very technical, author doesn’t dumb down things to please masses
c) plenty of saucy tabloid details from the lives of main characters
d) character-driven narrative (!!!), macro trends driven by biases, whims and personalities of four central bankers
e) very relatable, both at the time of writing, during Great Recession of 2008, and now, end of 2022.
