4.5 stars !! curled into a ball still, as i’m typing this. i’m no cat lover - let alone a pet person - but those last 50 pages reallyyy got me.

the plot is pretty simple: they set out on an adventure across Japan to find a new home for Nana, with Satoru's reasons slowly unraveling as they drive along. through his interactions with old friends and his aunt, we learn more about Satoru and his not-so-easy life. the story, while straightforward and emotional, is easy to read but may seem rudimentary due to translation. despite this, the tale touches on themes of companionship, empathy, acceptance, sorrow, and what it means to be a loyal friend; guaranteed to strike a chord even to non-animal enthusiasts, but even more so to those who share a special bond with their beloved cats (pets).
