"You write to calm the craving.
To corner them in fiction
And say
Finally,
I have conquered you."

We need to stop telling child stars they can write poetry. It’s never good. This made me want to burn a library.

Maybe I don’t get poetry. Maybe this wasn’t for me. Liked a maximum of 4 poems. Still love her music though.
A truly sensational piece of work. I pre-ordered this book as soon as Halsey announced she was finally realizing her dream of putting her poetry out into the world. Anybody that listens to her lyrics can hear the emotion and understanding she puts into her songs and this book of poems is no different.
From the start you can feel the impact of the words she has written. Each new stanza invokes you to want to read more and to understand the feeling behind each poem. While reading, her journey through each emotion comes out onto the page so clearly. She does not pull any punches in her writing.
This book is an insight into the mental health struggles that many face and could not have been easy to write down and put into words. The vulnerability that is shown in each poem is a testament to her bravery and strength. Instead of using her fame to create a mask of invulnerability she has allowed her fans to see into her life and mind in a way that many artist do not allow beyond their albums.
If this is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to her writing I, for one, can not wait for what the future holds. I will eagerly await more music, more poetry, more speeches, more of whatever she chooses next. Congratulations ma'am, I applaud you.

STUNNING. I will consume absolutely anything Halsey puts out into the universe.
Reading Halseys first (and hopefully last) poetry collection is embarrassing in the same way Willow Smiths Ardipithecus is "precocious ". Which is to say it's attempting to sound wiser than it's years, attempting to discuss topics they've had surface level contact with. It lacks skill or insight and is further cheapened by a clipped vocabulary that favors rhyme over meaning and results in a ridiculous overuse of the word "head". It's consistently terrible poetry. Sure some could make intresting verses for a song but when presented as a poem feel inadequate. Feel very Gabby Hannah . And who would want to trudge through that. I was going to DNF but I'm randomly dedicated to my reading challenge this year and not finishing a book feels like a waste.
