there’s actually some very good poems (Watermelon, Lighthouse.) and then there are some that are so pretentious I feel like gouging my eyes out.

Halsey's first poetry book is written in free-verse touching on a variety of topics and a style similar to her music rather than more classic/lyrical poetry. I liked some of these poems more than others, but most of thems I personally felt like they could have used more work before publication or were starting ideas rather than whole poems (one was even a portion of a song of hers).

It travels from her childhood through adulthood touching between romanti  relationships, family dynamics, traumatic experiences, drug abuse from friends and partners, and the impacts of fame to sum up some of the overarching subjects. Please check the triggers before deciding to read this book if you struggle with any heavy topics.

I loved some of these poems. I listened to the audio book (still not sure if I like audiobooks) and I could not get past the monotonous tone to Halsey’s reading. I am going to try consuming this again, but with the physical book instead.

Halsey is really talented. I loved this book very much, there were only few things that didn’t hit me hard enough for 5 stars. I would still recommend to everyone, especially fans of her work. 4.5 stars

Ok, this was fine. There were some really stand out poems, but the collection as a whole was pretty weak.

I love the cover art, and I can tell that Halsey really loves her art and she actually cares about poetry, but it’s just not a collection that really worked properly.

I’ll be keeping it and re reading some of my favourite poems, but I do feel that the collection as a whole is very weak. I counted all the poems and the ones that I liked out of them and it was 26/82. That’s really bad but I don’t hate this collection.

I have plenty of critiques but I did enjoy it. There were issues but I actually like it, I stand by everything I’ve said but it was fun and punchy.

6.7/10. I am far too obsessed with poetry lately.

I was really excited about this book since I’m such a fan of her music. The poems all read in a way where I could hear them being her songs. Many of them were incredibly personal, involving sex, drugs, and abuse. I’m not the biggest fan of poetry, but I read this all in one sitting, so id recommend it for sure. I’m really glad she included her poem from the Women’s March in the book as well. It’s so so so powerful.
