** MAJOR SPOILERS **

After starting this book and wondering whether I should even finish it or not I did indeed finish it and I am going to pretend there was never a third book.
Maybe things/feelings got lost in the shoddy translation but Artyom seems like a completely different character than the first book. I get that with trials and trauma there’s going to be character development and changes. But he is a different person. He spends large parts of the book just yelling, cursing, and fighting with his wife, calling her a bitch. He’s 26 in this book and he sleeps with a girl that’s not even 18? It just doesn’t feel like the Artyom from the first book at all..
As well as that all the people who side with him in the beginning and middle end up abandoning him right at the end anyway? Homer decides no one needs a book about the truth and says he’s going to write a giant lie instead, after the second book has him going on and on about wanting to write down the real history of the Metro… okay? one guy completely switches sides out of nowhere after following Artyom for the whole story and seemingly respecting and liking him.
Sasha’s character from the second book is completely obliterated and she’s happily working as a prostitute now? And in love with the main antagonist who has no redeeming qualities whatsoever?
There are absolutely no monsters anymore as it mentions early on that after the last year they just all died from no food/prey? The only real problem people are facing now is a famine, no monster invasions no fear of things breaking through the tunnels all that has just disappeared.
It feels like this was written by a different person, or it was a rushed book that he didn’t really want to write.
Save your time and just love the first book. It was amazing

way better than the second book in the series, but the first one remains my favourite.
in this book the author took the time to explore the political workings of the metro. the mysterious elements like the mutants or dark ones don't really play a big part, which is a major shift from the vibes of the first book. and we met some characters from metro 2034 again, and find out where they ended up.
all in all a solid wrap up for the series that answers some open questions about the world beyond the metro, but it has its flaws
