Not as good as the first, slower going and the characters weren't as interesting. Also the colonialism is heavier handed this time, less enjoyable because of that too.

Good, there was some borrowing from [b:The Moonstone|6138|The Moonstone|Wilkie Collins|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1403192382s/6138.jpg|1044477] it seems, including the name of Mr. Abelwhite.
The book was at it's best for me in London, there is a lengthy section in India which I suppose would have appealed to people in the day. There's a dramatic chase on a boat. The best parts for me though were the detection elements of Holmes. He says at about 30% that he's got the case all but solved which is a little anti-climatic for the reader.
A shorter book than the first and thankfully less concerned with Mormonism. It seems like these are all written as adventure tales in far off lands, which is not at all what they're remembered for today.

This second book in the Sherlock Holmes collection is incredibly similar in structure, writing style and execution to a study in scarlett. Watson’s unfaltering admiration and praise for Sherlock Holmes grew more tiresome to read in this book as it was very repetitive and hyperbolic and after hearing him sing his praises in the first book it was a sentiment as a reader that we were already well aware of. Overall however Sherlock Holmes is a guilty pleasure read and I love hearing Stephen Fry narrate the story. Sherlock Holmes stories are fantastic and although rather far fetched they are always a pleasure escapism read. This book while similar to the first was equally as much fun to read.
