My first book by this author, so there was some background in Grens' personal life that I didn't quite get but honestly, who cared? The story was a little convoluted and too contrived to fully work for me, in that the two threads tying together was implausible. Having said that, I guessed the story of the little girl about halfway through the book and nearly guessed the Big Bad behind it all so readers just need to figure out what's the "fluff" and what is important.

Jumped into a series 9 books in and still gave it 4 stars!

While I like one of the detectives very very much, if all of the books in this series have such complicated plots, I can't won't be able to go back and read the entire series. Maybe later.

A experiencedly written crime novel with tons of tension and interesting entanglements, which particularly convinces through the psychological components. There are a good amount of throwbacks so even if you haven’t read their earlier pieces of the series, you will understand it easily.

Thank you NetGalley / Random House UK Vintage for providing me with this arc in exchange of an honest review.
