Almost 2 years later, I still treasure this novel and it comes to mind often. Considering rereading. That's not the norm for me either.

I absolutely adored this book. It is without a doubt my favourite novel by a Bronte. It is a little wonder Anne's sisters disliked it; it is so far away from their terrible support of women pursuing horrible men. This book is no far advanced for it's time.

It could be a modern story...but some of the Victorian language and stylistic conventions are hard. I have never read a better profile of an abusive man. The description of his psychological state on his deathbed will stay with you.
