challenging funny reflective slow-paced

It was interesting to hear about someone else's mental health journey, particularly someone from a different cultural background.

The pace was on the slow side but overall I would say the writing (and/or translation) was good and mostly held my attention. The shorter length also felt appropriate for the book. Long enough to share the author's experiences and explore feelings but not so long that it feels overdone.

In all, it's a solid book but not my favorite genre.

The best part was when it ended.

first off, i commend the author’s bravery in recording some really harrowing therapy sessions and confronting their trauma into a book. must be very cathartic.

second, i enjoy the content of the book (the conversations, the revelations, digging into behaviours, etc.) but the format is kind of dry. maybe it’s cuz i listened to it as an audiobook but i wasn’t expecting the entire book to JUST be transcripts. the post-script is closer to what i would’ve wanted but it feels like a purge of thoughts, when they could’ve been interwoven throughout the chapters.

also, really commend the author on being honest about depression and envy and self-esteem. the nastiest thoughts i’ve had was when i was very depressed, now that i think about it. it’s not something you like to admit but it’s something you can fix.
