Interesting story about a girl who through an extremely convoluted series of events becomes a pawn in a political scheme involving another (fictional) country's royal family. I had predicted most of the plot twists before they were revealed in the narration which was (as always) slightly frustrating since I enjoy being surprised. But even if it was somewhat predictable, the twists themselves were interesting to let this flaw go. It was an interesting enough story nonetheless, especially the last 2/3 of the book. Not exactly brilliant writing, but I wonder how much of that is due to translation (it was originally published in Germany) but it's hard to say if that's the cause, and either way it's not ever truly and horridly painful.

ich bin mittlerweile 22 und auch wenn das Buch für eine deutlich jüngere Zielgruppe ist, liebe ich es trotzdem. man kann es immer wieder lesen (genauso wie den zweiten Teil). es ist einfach wunderbar:)

Awesome. I really liked how the princess was a total badass. I guessed everything though. Mystery? As if. Everything was soo obvious. It was still an amazing story and I loved it. I'm exited to read the second book. I need to buy it. Too bad my local barnes & nobles closed...

Good story, but thought it had moments.... wasn't a big fan of the fact they kept referring to her as the "little princess" and pretty sure any 14 year old worth her weight in teen angst would also despise that title. Made her sound 7! otherwise interesting story.

When I first read this book, I had no idea that it was originally a German bestseller. Yes, I'm a tad ignorant.
In The Princess Plot, a young girl named Jenna wins a starring role in a princess movie against all odds, but mysterious things begin to happen when she arrives at the filming location in the foreign country of Scandia.
Boie did a great job with creating the country of Scandia. Every country has its problems, and Scandia certainly has its fair share of them. Made up of two islands, the South has always been rich and successful, but the North has been taken advantage of for years. They are one step away from a civil war.
Jenna seems like a normal teenage girl. She is insecure at times, and in difficult situations she tries to be brave and do the right thing, but a lot of the time she cannot help but panic.
We don't really get much information on Malena, just that she is sad that her father is dead and that her people love her. Her character doesn't really have much depth.
Jonas, however, we know a little more about. We know that he misses his mother and that he has a strong friendship with Malena. He seems rude and sullen a lot of the time, but when you get to know him better you find that he is not like that at all.
Norlin is a bad guy, yes, but you cannot help but feel a little sympathy for him at times. That is not the case with Bolstrom. He is rotten through and through.
The plot of The Princess Plot (ha ha) is interesting, if not a bit fantastical. It's easy to get swept up in all of the action and drama.
The one thing that annoys me with this book is the writing. I understand that it is first and foremost a German book, and the English is translated from that, but I must say that the writing seems halting and, well, fake at some points. I find myself snorting at certain phrases and thinking, "Real teenagers would never say that."
The translator, David Henry Wilson, is obviously not a teenage girl and never was a teenage girl, so of course he does not know the things that teenage girls know.
Take, for example, this description:
"The young man smiled. He was good-looking, film-star good-looking. He was supercute." (pg. 21)
Um... supercute? Since when is that one word? Since when do teenagers use that to describe guys?
Please excuse my nitpicking. It just annoys me a bit.
Other than those little things, The Princess Plot is a pretty entertaining book. Read it!

The princess plot is a pretty good book, although one thing that I eventually discovered about one of the characters in the book, I kind of saw coming long before it was revealed. So, it wasn't as surprising to me when it was revealed, but it is still an action-packed book about rebels and there is also some segregation going on. The main setting takes place in Scandinavia.
Jenna never thought that she would get the part. She went to audition for a role as a princess in a movie without her mother's permit-ion. The only reason she even decided to go was because her friend talked her into it and she thought it would be just for fun and she didn't think that they would even take her seriously. After she auditions though, she gets a call back and they tell her she has the "right look" and that they choose her for the part. Little did Jenna know, that there was more to it then her being picked for a part in a movie.

Have to admit this was waaaay better than I thought it would be. It creates a great plot and doesn't fall into the usual young adult cliches. It was also nice to read a YA novel that isn't all about finding a boyfriend, but one of espionage, rebels, inequality, etc.
