✅ Worldbuilding
✅ Idea
✅ Magic System
✅ Writing Style
✅ I enjoyed the first half of the book very much

⛔ Half of the book was unnecessary - too much rambling
⛔ Male Lead was not likeable
⛔ Worldbuilding was good but just to little
⛔ Random changes of view after 3/4 if the book
⛔ Extremely specific sex scenes
⛔ Too little of the good things (world building, character development, consistent characters)
⛔ Inconsistent characters (of course the female lead is suddenly helpless and not strong enough as soon as the male lead comes around - extremely unbelievably - she is a badass assassin - why is she suddenly not able to fight etc.)
⛔ Tall, extremely strong guy, tiny female trope (I dont want to read it anymore)

Too violent. Already cringey.

The prologue was rough. Did not at all hold my attention and almost made me quit. But a little few minute crash course on the world building from tiktok set me right. I enjoyed this world and characters a lot. I’m very excited for next years sequel. I think I’m going to enjoy this series for a long time.

I loved this book, was perfect way to get lost in another world. Lots of world building with a good balance of story.
I read the last 2 thirds of the book in one day, I was reading as I did everything - could hardly put it down.
I am looking forward to book 2!

Absolutely drawn in by the gorgeous prose and unique take on magical wielding of elements in the beginning of the story, captivated by the world and its' geography/history/biodiversity, and rabidly read the final few chapters. I will say it lagged a bit in the middle. Biggest thing keeping it from a 5 star read for me is how repetitive the main character's flaws were. It felt like the author had to remind us every 3-4 pages how broken she is and how she chooses to be alone and keep distance and isn't allowed to love anymore because it only leads to pain. She makes the biggest emo kid you ever met in high school seem like a ball of sunshine at times. It was just overkill and had the opposite effect of me empathizing with her for the middle chunk of the book. With some of the reveals towards the end and some great prose, it became a little less annoying and empathy/sympathy for her returned in full force. But it wouldn't be a 21st century romantasy book without boatloads of trauma right?

A beautiful magic system and world building without feeling like you are having to plough through pages and pages of background context. Really enjoyable story, with an incredible FMC

This book has so much to offer. There is a well thought out, detailed setting with superb worlds building. There's a beautiful romance that is at once heartbreaking and hopeful. The characters act in ways that feel true the characters, even though their decisions can be at times frustrating.

This book made me feel.
