Yes, this is an excellent fantasy book. For me it was really long and I think a lot of it could’ve been cut out but also maybe a lot of it is for the remaining books in the series. I know they had to do a lot of worldbuilding, but it was definitely too much for me. I just really wanted the love story and there wasn’t that much of the love story in this. It’s definitely a story about a heroine and her battle to find out who she is. I would’ve loved for less characters because I kept getting confused but I still absolutely enjoyed it and went through it relatively quickly. So I think if you enjoy fantasy at all, I think you would definitely like this book.

I think this book is way overhyped. It’s hard to even get into it, and after finishing it, it feels like the first quarter or so was completely wasted and unnecessary, because the things that happen happen, and don’t really matter ever again. It feels completely forced. But I kept pushing through, because I saw potential in the story. But that’s all it was. Potential. Everything in this book feels forced and throughout the whole thing I constantly felt like I was the only one left out on an inside joke, and like I was constantly missing important things (that didn’t actually happen). The fmc keeps making stupid decisions that are never explained and feel so random it actually gave me a migraine sometimes and the whole (SPOILER) memory loss trope feels completely forced and unnatural. I also never got around to not finding the supposed love story between Kaan and Elluin/Raeve totally toxic and desperate. To me it doesn’t in the least feel like they were made for each other. (SPOILER END)
So generally would not recommend. It is also extremely hard to get into to the book at all and not just because it’s not a necessary plot line, but because of the world building. That’s usually not even a bad thing, but again so forced… uh 🙄 even after reading the glossary at least eight times I still had unexplained questions to EVERYTHING….
Okay gonna quit raging but I could go on… in my opinion just not worth 550 pages…

The book has great potential, but I felt like it rested on its sex appeal when it could’ve gone further with its actual character chemistry and plot development. It definitely is setting the stage for book 2, but the burn and relationship could’ve been  more developed in book 1.

This was a very long and somewhat complex book. It required a lot of concentration for me to follow who was what and what was the relationship between everyone, past and present. But I think that it must’ve been necessary, given it was the first book in a new series, and characters and backstories have to be established. In that, the author was successful, and I’m looking forward to the second book, whenever it comes out.

I’ve found fantasy books involving fairies are usually pretty raunchy (why are fae so horny? 😂). There were only a couple of sex scenes, and they were as explicit as expected.

Our protagonist is strong and fearsome, though I think her undoing will be her hardened heart. I hope she and Kaan make it in the end.

Really beautiful world, creatures, story, and characters. The plot and world are very unique and the relationship people in the book have with dragons and other creatures is really lovely. Good writing and well done characters, decent balance between plot and romance. Romance was more complicated and nuanced than many main stream romantasy stories.

Holy shit monkeys that was a wild ride.

The world building in this book is so damned cool. Everything is very UNIQUE - from the moons in the sky being a beautiful depiction of death, to the interesting layout of the world, to the plants, animals and creatures, to the different cultures, to the elemental magic system, to even the currency. It’s so well thought out and beautifully done. Took a bit to immerse myself in the world because it’s so incredibly different, but once you’re in it, you are IN IT!

As for the characters, they were so rich in their backstories, getting to know them was fascinating. Every little tidbit from reading at the beginning starts to make sense as you go through the story. So many times I was flipping back to earlier chapters and going OHHHHHHHH!!!! WOAH WTF

Raeve was such a cool FMC. She is a BADASS, and it was wonderful to read about her growth as a person and understand more and more about herself as the chapters went on.

Kaan, I love him. This man knows how to yearn. He and Rygun are so cool. His kingdom is giving Velaris but hot, and his ragtag crew are very fun. I hope we get more of them in the next one. I’m especially eager to read more about Grihms egg hunting journey.

The ending was reveal, after reveal, after reveal. It was so intense and exciting and FUN. I CANNOT WAIT FOR BOOK 2. Fall 2025 cannot come soon enough. LOVED IT THROUGH AND THROUGH

(May actually be in my top 3 books this year)
