I love the character consistency, growth and development.... Also the sexual tension is palpable! My only complaint is the flowery descriptions made the world building a bit confusing at times.
I wish I had better things to say about this book. Things I liked: the overall premise is interesting. I like the idea of the dragons becoming moons, I like the thread of lost memories tying the character to someone she knew long ago, and I want to like the magic system.
Problem points: the writing tries to be poetic and beautiful, but it’s so long-winded that it ends up confusing and irritating. The emotional parts of the book are not well-written and are just too wordy— we don’t end up feeling any of the pain the main character feels because we’re being told constantly how much pain she’s in and how broken she is. The characters have almost no growth in the entire book. The FMC is obstinately stupid for a somewhat understandable but not-well-portrayed reason (trauma ofc) and the MMC is just kinda… dopey. He starts by worshipping her 1000% which means there’s nowhere to grow. The big twist in the book is given away immediately by the diary entries scattered amongst the action— it would have been much more effective to introduce Elluin later, when the FMC starts to uncover her past. The overall plot beats are boring and the whole time I was reading, I was thinking about how bored I was. I don’t think I’ve skipped over so much of a book in recent memory. Probably should’ve just DNFed it 🤷♀️
