When I say the plot was 5 stars, there wasn't really a plot as such, more of a concept, and it was a unique concept which was executed well, disguising history facts within a cute story of a cat witnessing glimpses of different moments in human history. Fascinating and funny (I laughed out loud more than once) in equal measure. But there's also a definite sadness throughout the story. This is basically a story about time travel, but told in a way its never been told before. It was quite ingenious. It was a sweet and enjoyable book from the very start to the very end, I'd recommend it to anyone.

Really sweet book, had me in tears three times!

I loved the idea and thought it was really well done, I just wish that the language was a bit more accurate.

I KNOW cozy fantasy doesn’t have to be like this. After the 5th or so chapter, there was just no plot. Literally nothing. And before that the plot was incredibly disjointed as it is. Plus, things just don’t make sense. Why can this cat READ??!!! Because it’s convenient?? Grimalkin was a lightly humorous narrator at best, but most of the time doesn’t make much sense and he’s poorly characterized. The author flat out writes “he feels…” or an actual quote being “he was growing less judgmental.” I could understand if this was a middle grade book, but middle grade book does not equal bad or poorly written, unlike this novel. I don’t need the author to tell me how the character is feeling, show me!!!!!!

Also, to top it off, the only other consistent character whom I actually liked is gone just under halfway through the book. Every other character is annoying. The self insert at the end is super cringey, too. AND. In all the books(excluding comics) I’ve read, I’ve never actually seen a curse censored with asterisks. Are you fucking serious????? How is he saying “f**k.” Are you for real?? Just don’t have the character swear then!! Or say “he cursed” or some other bullshit. Oh my god.

The only reason I gave this a 1.5 and not a 1 is because I enjoyed the early historical parts and found them quite charming. Everything after that sucks.
