It’s not ground breaking, or earth shattering, or a masterpiece. But what it is is really lovely. A gentle, easy read to bring me into the New Year. Snapshots of history shown in sometimes amusing ways through the eyes of a cat. A proper comfort read.

What happens when a cat, who hasn't quite lived his full 9 lives, dies early? Well, he is given the opportunity to live those lives through the span of over a hundred years.

This book is structured almost like 9 short stories knitted together through the eyes of a cat called Grimalkin, who lives multiple lives as a ghost cat, seeing the world he once knew change in strange ways. There are little history lessons in each chapter as you learn what is new in the world and how a cat from the victoriana times views the changes.

This is an easy, fast read and holds a lot of heart and love in the writing. Who'd know having a cat die in the first chapter would end up being such a heartwarming story.

“But our wee fluffy pals… Always so noble! Always so loyal. With us through so much.”

A very fun little book about a time travelling cat and how people never change, but they never stay the same either.

This was a charming and delightful read, perfect for someone whose favorite show is “If These Walls Could Talk” except the narrator is an adorably precocious Victorian ghost cat

I think someone who is familiar with or is from Edinburgh or just Scotland in general would love this. But for me, being wholly unfamiliar with the city, had a hard time connecting with the setting and characters. It was fun to piece together the different moments in history, and the footnotes were a fun touch.

Overall a cozy time, and a fun exercise in what would sweet Walter be up to as a ghost cat?
