This is the 3rd novel by Rivers Solomon that I have read and it is definitely my favorite. I love forests, trees, and fungi and it was really nice to read a mycological body horror in which the fungus is not the enemy. The enemy is the state and symbiosis with nature is one way to fight it. 

This book was lush. The descriptions were so tangible. The characters well develop. The villain so ubiquitously evil. The relationships so deep and loving and honest. It was gripping, somehow both chilling and heartwarming, and surprisingly horny. I loved this book and I am sure I will read it again.

This was a very stressful read, in a not particularly enjoyable or rewarding way. But the writing is excellent.

I am not familiar with the author so I didn’t know what to expect. I thought it was a dystopian novel but it isn’t. I loved it.
