It’s picking up again, but I can’t overlook the misogyny on this series but especially on this volume.

I was questioning some plot choices for a minute there, but this volume was back at it and I’m completely hooked again.

“IT'S IMPOSSIBLE
THAT NO ONE FINDS THE NEW L SUSPICIOUS, ESPECIALLY AFTER I MADE SUCH CONTROVERSIAL COMMENTS, AND IN LIGHT OF THE RECENT INCIDENTS.
IF THEY DIDN'T, THEN THEY'RE WORSE THAN PRESCHOOLERS.”
Near is now my favorite character in Death Note and I forgot just how good he is as the foil to Light Yagami. I also forgot about Teru and his background, but honestly, I feel more for his character than I do for the sociopath that is Light. Teru wants to bring Justice into the world because of what he has experienced firsthand, Light does it because he’s bored. Honestly, the introduction of Teru, Mello, and Near are all very welcome into the series being my second time around, and they never felt out of place nor unwanted, something I felt when I first completed the series. I believe if Teru and Light interacted as much Light and L, Teru would write his name in the Death Note. I like the reintroduction of Takki from University as the new spokesperson for Kira, being the news anchor for NHN, and how Near immediately sends his team to Japan to track Kira down. Another great volume that kept me invested in what was to come next.

This series installment feels repetitive, with the same villainous cycle replaying with new characters. While the pacing picked up compared to the previous books, I struggle to connect with the characters, both heroes and villains. The lack of emotional investment lessens the overall impact.
