10/10 on insider information but incredibly dated. Gratuitous use of the “R” word and extremely pro cop :/

Pretty much an essential read for those interested in true crime (and I'm sure those who know me are surprised I just now got to it.)

As far as serial killers go, Bundy is a pretty accessible one in this day in age. We've got numerous books, articles, documentaries, etc. He's referenced in pop culture, even casually at times. It made it interesting to look back at what Rule had to say about the time before he was a well known phenomenon. To empathize and realize the odd, awkward place she had in his life and in legal proceedings.

Knowing a lot of facts about Ted is one thing. Hearing the perspective from someone who knew him adds some intrigue. I appreciate her vulnerability in admitting the conflicting feelings she had throughout. In the care she once (and I think always) felt for the friend she believed she had, and the horror and disgust at the truth of it all.

Like I said, pretty much essential true crime read. I enjoyed it.

Ted Bundy through the eyes of a woman who called him a friend. While I was very interested in this story, to hear the background, to learn how he was caught, and to hear stories of his victims, I am disappointed in the book. I wish more time was spent on the victims and the investigations. I also feel the author was sorely disillusioned or else tried too hard to say Ted was more than an acquaintance. She barely talked to him. She was manipulated by him because he wanted the fame of her ability to tell his story. And then she used this to sell a book like she knew Ted personally. I doubt anyone really knew this psycho. Too much time spent on her own story, it was like a mix between a memoir and a retelling of the murders. I suffered through to the end as I needed the closure of Ted's capture. But really could have done without this book.
