an interesting plot line that definitely got better as the book went on. i found the setting in sydney - being a local myself, really fun to immerse in. super quick and easy read, first 3/4 i wasn’t totally enthralled but the last portion of the book is exceptional and forced me to reflect on my own relationships in all the best ways.

It's taken me SIX DAYS to finish this. I was thisclose to DNFing it, but I decided I wanted to finish it, and OMG, why?

The story is boring, slow and foreseeable as heck.
The writing is sloppy, there are immense gaps on the descriptions: they're talking, standing, and suddenly they're sitting; phones appear on hands that are not their owners'; you think you're reading one POV and it turns out to be someone else's... I could go on.
The characters are quite flat, I couldn't see a big development on their characters nor personalities. They don't have hard conversations that need to be had in order to get over what happened.
And if you're 1% observant, you'll see the plot twist coming from the very beginning of the book.

It was such a flop.

I loved how much I was sucked into this read and the relationships between the characters, the premise of taking a sibling dynamic and seeing how much pressure could be applied was entertaining to read. Other notable mentions go to the limited cast of characters and the sharp yet literary way Diana Reid writes. I did find the last third of the book dragged a litttle and did guess the twist which does remove some of the shine, an enjoyable read nonetheless.

ahhhh. a sally rooney-esque novel that follows a cohort of insufferable people with an innate inability to communicate. very well written - i loved the inner city setting and relatable jargon but my sheer hatred and frustation for the characters (who had 0 redeemable qualities) made this one lose a couple of points for me.

3.75 This book had all the right ingredients for me to absolutely devour it. Not even sure where it missed for me. Still a good read but it didn’t hit as hard as I was expecting it to :(
I love a character driven story but this was a tad heavy handed and prevented me from complete immersion
Loved: exploration of sister relationships, Sydney culture, theatre and artistic pursuits, queer relationships, work culture
