When I first saw reviews for this book I thought it was going to be a spooky thriller novel. It definitely wasn't that. It did, however, keep you on your toes and made you want characters to succeed even if you weren't entirely sure why. Parts of this story felt like home and parts of it felt uncomfortable, just like the main character was feeling throughout the novel.

What in the actual fuck did I just read. Not to mention this was such a slog to get through.

I didn’t even hate the taboo element of it, I hated that she “fell in love” with someone who abused her, r*ped her and destroyed her property. She fell in love with him without even knowing a god damn thing about him! I get he was traumatised but that doesn’t excuse what he did to her and choosing just to be an asshole to every woman around him.
On a positive note; I did like who Jake ended up with, that was pretty cute.

So disappointed I disliked this so much cause I LOVED birthday girl.

This really isn’t a book for everyone. It deals with some pretty messed up themes (mentioned in my content warnings) and it’s pure graphic smut in most of its chapters.

Personally, not paying attention to the messed up, I genuinely enjoyed this book and most probably re-read it sometime. That ending has got to be the best happy ending I’ve ever read honestly and I LOVED it.

I honestly have a lot of mixed opinions on this book. I think that I couldn't get behind the "forbidden love" aspects and would definitely recommend looking up trigger warnings because I sure didn't and regret that a bit. Picked up because of BookTok recommendation and because it was on Kindle Unlimited. The writing was good but I think the relationships between the characters just weren't for me.
