This one has been on my tbr for a while now and I have heard mixed reviews saying it was so good or that it was overhyped. I lean more towards the overhyped side. This is my second Penelope Douglas book, and I don’t think her writing is for me. I think the premise of this book was good, I enjoyed the taboo plot, but I don’t think it was executed as well as it could’ve been. I liked that there was HEA, but I wish we could’ve seen more development on boys in the story.

Fuck this book, chapter 6 has sexual assult that alluded to putting more fault in the fl than the man who assulted her because she ~secretly wanted it~. Literally made me want to simultaneously barf and punch the author in the face. How can you write that, especially as a women, when all too often rape and sexual assult is justified by men bc actually even though the women was sending "no" signals or screaming at me to stop I know she really wanted it. 🤢🤢 Gave up reading it after this because I don't even care to see if the author fixes this mistake later. On top of this, the uncle character is such a creep, he's literally double her age and yet the author writes in multiples scenes, even from his perspective, where he is creating sexual tension with her, AS A MINOR. Disgusting, don't read, how does this book have more than 3 stars.

I was attracted to the story, and the tension was delicious between Tiernan and Jake. Even all smut scenes were well done and enjoyable. However, the main character “falling in love” with Kaleb who essentially raped her and treated her horribly made no sense. Jake and Noah would’ve been better partners as they actually treated her like a person. She had disdain for Kaleb, her all of the sudden being in love with him was so out of left field I couldn’t believe what I was reading. She loved and had feelings for all three, but then completely does a 180 out of nowhere, and basically overnight loses all feelings for the two “unchosen” guys, which makes no sense because the entire first half of the book does nothing but build up the anticipation for her relationships with each of them respectively. It felt off and was not seamless, and very out of character. For that reason, only the spicy scenes were even worth the read, and the ending ultimately ruined it for me.

Once again Penelope Douglas showing me that when I think she writes something fucked up, she shuts me up and writes something even more.
.
After a tragic accident Tiernan is orphaned, being in the hands of his uncle, who lives in a town far from the city and his house even further into the forest, he has two sons who do not seem to accept the idea of having a girl at home, because whatever happens, winter will come and they will have to be locked for months the four of them at home. What will happen if Tiernan becomes even more involved in the lives of these men?
.
Once again I fell for the BookTok recommendations, the first Red flag I should have seen is that it is written by an author who loves to write about scandalous topics, but I was with the idea that the girl falls in love with a mute guy and well, a broken guy fell in love with a broken girl, is one of my favorite tropes, but lol what I didn't know is that before that, she would go through each of the family members, like we get it you have daddy issues, but your uncle? And her only excuse is that they are not blood brothers, ahhhh thank goodness, I feel even better, I don't know why I finished this book, there were many smuty scenes but so shaddy, I was a little uncomfortable that the girl just turned 18 and everyone wants to steal her little flower, like, and in the end they are all happy, what's wrong with them, they are like animals and nobody thinks it's weird?, the only thing I can say is that it was entertaining? Or at least I think so, with everything that happened I had no time to think it was boring.

A 5 star rating for Credence, can we get a round of applause for Penelope Douglas? Because wow, just wow am I speechless after finishing this book. I went into Credence knowing some but not all about this book. I knew the relationship of the characters and that there were some questionable actions happening between them, I just never would’ve expected to love it so much. The overwhelming way I instantly connected to the emotional struggles of the FMC, I wanted to put the book down and never pick it up again but it continued to call me and read it. So I gave in to the temptation and stayed up till 4/5am just trying to read as much as I could. Feeling every emotion Tiernan felt throughout the whole book, placing myself in her shoes, in her story, just to escape from mine. I cried, I laughed, and I loved all through this fictional girl who probably saved my life tonight. Waiting till the day I find my Kaleb.
