If there are Mount Rushmore of comic book creators, Tilly Walden would be up there next to Will Eisner. This book could be used as a textbook on how to make amazing comics. Walden's ability to use imagry to not only illustrate the story but you add to it to tell more of it, it is visual storytelling at its finest. While this book is about ice skating it's obviously not just about ice skating it's one of the deepest and heaviest books I have ever read.

This book wasn't quite what I expected it to be. I found it interesting how Walden continued to do something she hated so much for so long, but with the events of her life, it makes sense. I hope that Walden has gotten some healing since publishing this book.

tillie walden’s skill as a visual storyteller really shines in this memoir. it was an impactful read for me because even though it’s a memoir, i saw a lot of my teenaged self in it.

I absolutely loved this graphic memoir. As the author writes in the afterward, it's about
so much more  than ice skating. The emotional depth and the way the author translated that into images blew me away. The Eisner Award for this book is so incredibly well deserved. It's only March, but I'm pretty sure this will end up being one of my favorite reads of the year!
