The Echo Point reprint is great except for the cover copy, which contains phrases like "Travel back to a time of innocence and adventure" and "Written long before the introduction of the internet." Ugh. I have a hard time believing those descriptors will reel many kids in, which is a pity because there's a lot of fun to be had. It also made me want to read more Carol Ryrie Brink--I enjoyed Caddie Woodlawn and Baby Island as a kid but never really dove into her back catalogue.

Wonderful

This is a reread for me and this book is just as charming as I remembered. I highly recommend it.

I read The Pink Motel (first published in 1959) aloud to my husband over breakfast for a couple of weeks. We chose it because he remembered it as one of his "favorite books from childhood." While he could see how the book's message appealed to him as a child ("Push the boundaries of normal (and boring) and you'll find "interesting!") he didn't think the story passed the test of time. As a first timer at The Pink Motel, I was disappointed at the lack of imaginative language and storyline. So, unfortunately, I will not be stay here again on my next vacation to Florida.

I last read this maybe 30 years ago and couldn't have told you a thing about the plot so I decided to read it again. I had lots of "Oh, yeah!" moments.... "Oh, yeah, a family from Minnesota inherits a Florida motel," "Oh, yeah, the lady and her little show dogs stay at the motel," "Oh, yeah, there are gangsters and alligators and a mystery." It was sweet and I liked it. When I'm 70 and have forgotten it again, maybe I'll read it all over.

What a delightful book. I think I read this years ago, but I didn't remember a lot of it. Excellent fun.

This is a great book for kids. I loved it as a girl & my 8-year-old son loves it too -- there are so many great characters. Alligators! Gangsters! A magician! Very very valuable dogs! And a mysterious pen ... the list goes on. Wonderful novel.
