I don’t get it. I was expecting something profound about life and love. But instead I got shallow, unlikeable characters who I never grew to care about. And far too much talk about poo!
Like Stalin’s son (as mentioned in Part 6… yes the book is split into 7 parts!) I wanted - for the entire duration of this book - to throw myself at an electric fence.

Half philosophy, half fiction, none of it made up. I will need to read this again when I am older, and perhaps again after that. There is so much in this book to think about. While it could have been shorter and perhaps less self-reflexive, I enjoyed it all the way through.
No terminé este libro porque, bueno, se me hizo insoportable y como leí más del 50%, lo voy a contar como leído.

I really struggled with this, a friend of mine really loves it. I finished all but two hours on the audiobook version, but I just couldn't do more. Maybe it would have been easier on paper. I appreciated the reflections on life, self, relationships, and the mind, particularly the internal narrations and processes exposing how we all often think, no matter how self-absorbed, ever-shifting, or irrational. However, after about 50% of the book, I just couldn't do the writing style, particularly Theresa's ever-increasing surreal (dreams?) and other random events. My guess is if you like Murakami, you would like this book/author.

All I remember after the entire novel is the anecdote about Stalin's relative's death.
