Hmmmm 😂 

This book, nor its main character, was not concerned with being palatable to readers. It’s an ugly read but I’m pretty sure that’s the whole point. I often found the MC to be insufferable with her “I’m not like other girls” deal. She is also definition of “hurt people hurt people.” If you’re able to read books where the main character isn’t likable, have at this 🥴

I’m not sure what I expected going into this book, but I did really enjoy it! Eliza Clark writes wonderfully in this. I found that the progression of the book was good, however towards the end it felt a tad too rushed - a lot of final revelation stuff coming all too fast rather than a gradual development (which I feel may have settled better, although I do see why Clark chose to write it this way). As a Northerner myself I found the descriptions of Southerns and their perception of the North as this wasteland of post-Thatcher zombies to be accurate and entertaining, but I am biased. Overall I’m settling for four stars as I just felt there was something missing - do not let that put you off this book though! A fantastic read especially if you enjoy looking at varying relationships and ‘pretty privilege’.

I love a good story about an arsehole, and this is a great story about an arsehole, but that's reductive, and it's also reductive to say it's the intersection of Fleabag and American Psycho, but Northern, but it also kind of is. Loved it.
