I was glued to this book, mostly because I love reading unlikeable female characters and I do enjoy unreliable narration. In saying that, this character is so unlikeable, there’s actually nothing redeeming about her—which could deter people. Similarly, if you don’t like unreliable narration and a conclusion that leaves an open plot and doesn’t provide concrete answers, this book would not be for you. Narratively, I really enjoyed Clark’s incorporation of texts, blog posts etc… as ways of storytelling.

⚠️ Important to note that there a multitude of trigger warnings for this book (which I may not have categorised correctly, but they all come up) so this may not be appropriate for everyone and I’d recommend checking the warnings first ⚠️

„Weird Girl Fiction“ wird hier großgeschrieben.
Ein obskurer Roman über eine Frau, die Männer so objektifiziert, wie Männer es bei Frauen tun.

„I could train a camera on a man and look at him like a man looks at a woman; boys, too, could be objects of desire.”

Kommentare:
Ein anti-girlsgirl, das soziopathische oder auch narzisstische Züge hat und darauf wartet, dass jemand sie für ihr sadistisches Verhalten zur Rechenschaft zieht.

"Do I have to smash a glass over the head of every single man I come into contact with, just so I leave a fucking mark?"

Irina is a photographer who scouts men to model for explicit photos. When she gets a chance to show her work at a gallery exhibition, she begins going through her old work and creating new pieces and this starts a scary downward spiral.

Boy Parts by Eliza Clark was recommended to me multiple times and I truly want to thank everyone who did because you truly know me and my tastes. I love weird books. I love truly unlikeable characters. I love watching things fall apart. This book absolutely is that. Irina is such a complicated character. Initially I got the idea she was just messy but quickly, Clark muddies the waters and I started feeling differently and wanted to see what would happen with Irina. Being in her head isn't pleasant. She's unhinged and scary and I love uncovering more of her history as she goes through the boxes of her work. There are blog posts and texts scattered throughout that orient this book in a specific time and place. This book is short and strange and a little scary and intense and if you like books like that and have a soft spot for the Tumblr aesthetic and the TV show Skins, I'd highly recommend.
