This was a cute book. It had parts where I was laughing out loud, and parts where I was feeling sad. It was an easy read and not too long.

After reading The Overdue Life of Amy Byler, I totally fell for Kelly Harm’s writing style and characterization and just had to go back and read everything else she’s written (that’s not weird or stalker-y sounding at all, right?!) I started at the beginning with her debut novel, The Good Luck Girls of Shipwreck Lane. I was looking for something fun and the story of two Janine Brown’s who both believe they’ve won a dream house in Maine seemed the perfect antidote to my curse of having death appear in every book I’ve read so far this year.
Well, I was wrong about the death bit but this book was still the answer! I absolutely loved these characters and their surprising lives and myriad deceptions. Even the characters you’d expect to be unlikeable are relatable and sympathetic. I hate when books stereotype characters when life is full of odd combinations.
I just loved spending time with these characters! This book is so well done, with multiple narrators (the kind who have their own unique voice so you don’t even have to check the chapter heading to see who it is), the dialogue is witty but realistic, and the setting is gorgeously described. Now I’m off to read her remaining backlog (don’t make it weird, y’all).

Fun, delightful, thoroughly enjoyable.

Such a sweet book. :)

And as a bonus, it's a storyline that I haven't read before. It seems like authors keep recycling plots. Husband who dies leaving a secret and/or his wife pennyless? Read that several times. Husband cheats then tries to swindle/cheat his wife out of everything? Read that one too many times. And, oddly enough, family has a small primate as a family member? I've even read that several times.

Fun book about a woman who wins a house , but there is a little mix-up when another woman with the same name thinks SHE won the house.

I really enjoyed this book! It was fun, light, and the perfect summer read. Lots of parts seemed unrealistic or unlikely, but it didn't bother me, I loved it anyway. The characters were funny and interesting and the story kept me reading.

Being from Iowa (not all that far away from Cedar Falls) it was fun seeing names of towns and businesses from around here.

I can't wait to see what else this author comes up with in the future!
