MAYBE 3.5 stars? This book needed to be about 100-150 pages less. It started out great but started to lag for way too long to where I almost shelved it but I really did want to know who killed Thalia!

I liked the references to the early to mid-90’s and the cultural mindset of that time intermixed with the new mindset in the #metoo era. I was hoping for more on the phone calls she would listen in on. This book dragged on for so long in part 1 that I forgot that she would do that! I really thought when it was brought up again that she had actually overheard a conversation involving the case.

I don’t think I liked Bodie, but I liked that she would try to step outside of her own narrative to figure out why she felt one way or the other in every situation like Jerome and his accuser. I didn’t think there needed to be soooo many theories about who killed Thalia (Puja, and the old creeper in the woods for example). BUT, I really don’t like that at least 3 of those theories seemed so plausible. Not only is one of them most likely the killer, but the other two seemed plausible enough that I would’ve accepted either of them as her killer as well.

I liked that part 2 jumped 4 years into the future, which is also where the book starts to finally pick up again! Although, I really really hated the ending. No clear definitive killer or clear definitive motive it was all Bodie’s speculation just with new evidence. And that still wasn’t enough to even get an innocent man out of prison!

I read another reviewer that said they were “a believer of Chekov’s gun, if there’s a murder in the story, solve it” and I couldn’t agree more.

I needed this case to be solved clear cut and I wish there had been an epilogue. I wanted to know how the rest of Bodie, Britt and Alder’s podcast episodes went; how the social aftermath was for Robbie after his courtroom testimony; do Mike and Dorian suffer at all for being shitty people?? And lastly, what was the aftermath of Denny Bloch once all of his former students that he had groomed came forward? I don’t like mysteries that leave me with more questions than answers; especially from mysteries that needed to be edited shorter.

Ok but why is this minor character who is randomly israeli always being written like "he israelied israelily down the stairs"

I'm glad this audiobook had one of my favorite narrators. This book was fine.

This follows Bodie, as she returns to her old school to teach and finds herself thrown back into the mystery surrounding the events of her roommates murder.

It took me a while to get through this because I found the first chunk of the book really slow paced so just didn't really care what was happening. Once the plot picked up it was more enjoyable but didn't really do much for me. I thought it was a bit preachy at times too - there was a lot of discussion of true crime as a genre and the me too movement which seemed out of place because it didn't fit into the plot at all.

I liked the last portion of the book a lot more. I thought way it ended was really unsatisfying but made a lot of sense. The commentary the book was trying to make came through really well here I thought.

DNF. quit @ 40% just trying to get myself to 50. Like watching paint dry. And the audio was worse. Snore.
