Rating: 5/5 stars.

Absolutely adored this, and adored the tandem read with EoS.  Definitely a shift from the rest of the series but utterly outstanding in its own right. There are apparently people out there who skip this one, to which I say….are you okay??? I absolutely LOVED this book, and found it to be a refreshing change of pace (ish, since I was tandem reading).

The beginning of this book dragged but it got better as it went. I did the tandem read (reading at the same time as Empire of Storms) and that helped a lot. I probably wouldn’t have finished this as quickly if it was all Chaol and Nesryn.

at first, i found the romance(s) to be questionable, but i grew to love them.

quick rant:
alll aelin has ever done is try her best to save herself and her people and fight for the underdog and chaol STILL doesnt trust her????? that is some bullSHIT. i know he eventually gets over it but it still pisses me oFF

the first half of this book was really slow, then it got kind of exciting, then chapter 55-end was like 5 stars

What a wonderful book. I really enjoyed my time in Antica with Chaol. The royal family of the Khaganate, especially Sartaq, were some of my favorite characters to get to know in the series. The court intrigue, the goings on if the Torre Cesme, the lurking evil, the Ruk riders, and the personal journey of healing are all part of what makes this book one of my favorites of the series.
