This was thoroughly enjoyable.
This was darker than the other books in this series, and the mystery itself was much more satisfying.
This almost felt more like a traditional mystery than a cozy mystery, and I appreciate the author's ability to mix it up!
This focuses on what happened to Bea's parents that resulted in their death.
I loved the background on Bea's parents.
I loved the growth in Bea & Kesgrave's relationship.
I look very forward to their continuing adventures as a couple🥰

captivating stories
I stumbled upon this series and I’m so glad I did. From book 1 I have been drawn in by the characters and their delightful stories.

This one did not have much of Kesgrave but it was needed because ultimately this is Bea's story. It was very angst filled and Bea was very emotional in this book but it is understandable and realistic. Parents are always going to bring a lot of emotions out of a person.
I fell completely in love with Kesgrave, I always liked him a lot and grew to love him but I was complete mush by the end of this book.

It is easy to assume that the dynamic between Bea and Kesgrave would change since they are together and we would lose that wonderful banter. It was hardly the case, instead it was even better because they are together. And Kesgrave's implicit trust on Bea is *chef's kiss"

I really enjoyed the mystery in this one (although, uh, content warning for violence against women / slut-shaming / gross entitled dudes being gross and entitled), and am 1000% on board Team Give Bea More Friends. It's also very refreshing to read a romance where the hero is so clearly drinking his Respect Women juice every morning - Damien's unending affection and trust for Bea is delightful.
