I enjoyed the fairytale retelling in Little Thieves and the Russian folklore mixed in. I think if I hadn’t read The Bear and the Nightingale prior I wouldn’t have understood the house and hearth creatures as they weren’t really explained, so it was helpful to have that background.
Vanya had a lesson to learn and she seemed obtuse to the solution, not wanting to face the facts of her greed, but for a 16yo that seems pretty reasonable. It was funny how she was
tricked into the solution by the forest goddess who cursed her in the first place.

A reread. Still really enjoy this one. The complexity of the world is a lot of fun. The story is unique and complex. Libby needs to get ahold of the second book, Painted Devils.

The character development was SO good and I stayed up until 1 am to finish it. Was definitely talking out loud to myself at every plot development

a different take on the goose girl, but it was fun picking up on the references to the original tale. I love all of the relationships as well!
