A refreshing new take on sirens and pirates, I devoured The Syren's Mutiny in a day. The action was fast paced and hard hitting immediately out the gate.

+ Forced Proximity
+ Slow burn
+ Excellent representation of anxiety
+ EMOTIONAL DAMAGE

The Syren's Mutiny captures all the tropes that I love, but gives me the sirens and pirates that I see so little of. Brigid's origins did not start out as a siren, but after they take her in under their fins she will do anything they ask. The brutal destruction that they reign on the ships and the drowning of pirates was incredibly vivid and I was here for it.

“Bubbles escaped from his nose and mouth, and his body thrashed, still trying to escape. His obvious panic and suffering did nothing to me, and I only watched in utter indifference as he continued to try to break free of my grip. But I was a syren. And he was just a man.”

But alliances are tested and motivations questioned as Caelum hits the page. Their attraction is instant, but the slow burn is there (painfully so when they are interrupted) and their history is complicated.

Jessica's writing is detailed and draws you in. The characters and their different paths with the dual POV is well executed. Even the secondary characters were well rounded. The spice wasn't overbearing and I was screaming when we finally got a taste after all the teasing and close moments.

However, I cannot BELIEVE that cliffhanger. Waiting for book 2 might be the death of me.

If you loved The Little Mermaid but want something more adult, pick this up.

Thank you to the author for providing an ARC to me.

Def a slow burn. A lot of lead up to a very quick “battle” at the end. Lots of above water storyline. I hope the second book has a longer focus on the underwater world. Looking forward to see where the story and conflict continues in the next book.

This book is so full of intrigue it keeps your pages turning! As a fan of pirates and sea lore I was really excited to start this one. Mix in an enemies to lovers trope and I’m sold! If you love Pirates of the Caribbean then I highly suggest The Syrens Mutiny.

Another fantastic book set at sea that I've had the pleasure of reading!

This one follows Brigid, a young lady who was tossed overboard by men when her husband was done with her and she had the opportunity to become a siren thanks to her queen Cliodhna, and she took it. Her and her sisters travel the seas sinking any ship manned by man and drown them as retribution for what men has done to them all. One day a new girl joins their ranks who has a softer heart and does not believe all men are bad or evil, which causes Brigid to question how she personally feel, especially when they start to drown a new ship they find which has a boy on there(now a man), who had once been kind to her when she was little and had tried to help her. Brigid decides to save him to her own detriment when she is kicked out her family of sirens and sent to land. To make up for, or try to make up for drowning his men, Brigid decides to help Caelum on his mission to stop his father, and in the interim Brigid begins to find out maybe not all men are evil, and what other lies has she been told by her queen?

This was such a fantastic story! Although I did not agree with the sirens actions, I could understand why they wanted and did what they did to all those men who sailed the seas. They were treated terribly, and if you're never shown kindness by any man as you grow up, what else could you think but that all men are like that? I loved watching Brigid grow and change, you can feel the war in herself to trust and believe her queen, and yet she watches how Caelum acts with her and his men, and she realizes, although the sirens are her sisters, they never acted quite like a family the way Caelum and his men act like, and Brigid wants that. Even if it's with men, especially when you see her slowly realize, maybe not all men are evil. And Caelum really helps her see that because OMG that man is such a gentleman! The way he treated her, the self control he had, always making sure she was okay, just swoon! I mean how can you ever think he's evil?!

Speaking of which, the romance was just so lovely and such a slow burn. Here is Brigid who hates men, and yet there's just something about Caelum that makes her feel safe. And then Caelum who is angry at Brigid, and yet he understands why she did what she did, but how or when could he forgive her? I just love how slow the relationship developed. It never felt rushed to me, and I think that was good, especially for Brigid who had some serious issues she needed to figure out herself and understand her personal feelings and make her own decisions, and not allow others to make that decision for her. Which brings another point I loved in this book is the SELF-CONTROL they had! There were many times when they were upset and tempers were rising, but they would each take a step and hold their words in and just try to figure things out calmly rather than creating unnecessary drama by yelling at each other all the time, because they each have a bit of a temper, but clearly have learned how to control it and I really appreciate the way they communicated and respected each other.

And once again, I love the found family in here, especially with Brigid amongst all these men, it was just great, and I loved all their interactions especially with how she felt about them, it was just really sweet.

I highly recommend this book, especially if you love books set at sea filled with sirens, and a slow burn romance! I received a free digital copy to read. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I NEED more pirate/syren books in my life after reading this!

I really enjoyed reading this book! The story is unique, entertaining, and filled with great main and side characters. I absolutely flew through this and then had a minor heart attack after THAT ending
