She writes well on loneliness. But it feels too tidy to take away all fiscal worries from a character and then expect them to teach us anything.

The book has beautiful descriptions of birds . It links the idea of birds with dinosaurs and ultimately the theme of extinction.
However the book has some very conservative capalist points of view. The MMC struggles to acknowledge his own privilege and complains when D & I initiatives negatively impact him. The book is a slice of life tale with no real resolution. This is the first book I’ve read by this author but I am told her books normally deal with what’s earned in life vs what’s given & deserved and that her books normally tackle this theme in a more gritty way.
I was clearly not the target audience for this book. Like the other reviewers said there maybe reader who would enjoy this book.
Content warnings regarding micro aggressions & homophobia

I thought this was a quietly brilliant little novel. It managed to make me care deeply about the people in the story and was filled with complex and nuanced central characters. Although set against a backdrop of so many of the horrors of the last few years, the care and love seen in many of the relationships between the characters still warmed my heart. Extra points for a birding subplot!
