Oh my YES. Recommend whole heartedly.
I picked this one on a whim. So much love. I liked the survival elements, but I REALLY liked the choices that had to be made and which ones were made. It just...made sense to me and was true to the characters. So true. I wish this had been out when I was a kid. I enjoyed it, but I would have loved to have grown up with a book like this.
Anyways. Recommend. Go read it. Shoo. Off with you. I'll wait.
Edit: Um. I've noticed a lot of reviews complaining about Toad's crazy language. It is kind of a whirlwind of silliness. There, you've been warned ;).

Sticking in here as read for recommendation purposes. JUV female lead character in a dystopian world. Since teen dystopia is sometimes too bleak to recommend to tweeners, this one might fit the bill.
