demian – aka my shayla

the second book i tackled as a member of the hesse cult was demian. at that point, i was so over everything—especially high school—that i was quite literally occupying my mind with just about anything. so inevitably, i became obsessed with demian—not just the book, but the character, and especially the name. (it’ll resonate with me in the future still, but i won’t disclose how.)

now, back to the book itself. this is one of hesse’s earlier works, and it shows—but i don’t mean that in a bad way. you can feel how he hasn’t yet become his fully realized, transcendental self. and still, even then, he’s already greater than many authors will ever dream of being.

ps: also, special attention to this part, iykyk:
“he too was a tempter; he, too, was a link to the second, the evil world with which i no longer wanted to have anything to do.”

I've never thought that I'll see someone who gets the conflict and the struggle that I always go through. Demian is such a unique character. I really love his mindset and how outstanding he is.
But Sinkler...He was quite shocking to me. Because I felt like I was reading about my own thoughts and struggles. Even the dark thoughts were the same. It felt like...as If I'm looking at my reflection. Which is really unique, cause I thought that I'm alone in this world.
The only person who has those thoughts. But it seems that thir are others who just like me...
That was quite reassuring and comforting.
I know I'll be spending a very very long time after this book doing nothing but thinking.
This is one of these books that you need to read several times throughout your life, because everytime you read it it'll feel like the first time and it'll make you see the life from different perspectives.
I'm really glad that I read it and I think Mr.Hessa is going to own a shelf in my library soon.

There's nothing really wrong with this book, I just wasn't personally blown away by it. It was OK. Talks a lot about spirituality and the human condition. Sinclair gave me the ick sometimes but that's to be expected from any book about the life and times of a sensitive white boy

Gay AF. Loved it.
