Provocadora novela con un personaje con una voz muy lograda, que logra trasmitir la desesperación, desconexión, tristeza, etc. que caracterizan su mirada. Puede parecer odiosa si creemos la opinión del narrador pero claramente se nos dibuja una persona amargada, penosa, que no encaja en la sociedad, y con ella se dibuja una crítica a la propia sociedad. Sorprende el tipo de lenguaje cuidado y a veces hasta culto que utiliza con lo zafio y tosco de sus opiniones llenas de prejuicios. Aunque no nos guste, en este narrador reconocemos a personas reales y por eso quizá nos escama tanto.

I didn’t like this book until I finished it. I think that it is almost boring until part 2, which doesn’t really even get exciting until the end. Part 3 is where it really shines, but i understand it needing the first two parts to really work. It was okay overall, and Im definitely going to read another by Houllebecq to make up my mind about him definitively. It did what I wanted it to do.
