5/10 - I like a lot if the characters, but the main character doesn’t take any agency. They are passive in every sense of the word and their [minor] conflict finds speedy resolution at the end all thanks to the actions of every other character. A magical world is built where no real magic happens. There’s more potential and I would be open to reading a sequel if literally any other character but Vi was made to be the protagonist.

Not usually a fan of illustrated books but really enjoyed this one. Loved the pictures, storyline & characters. Thought the setting of a magical high school was a little much but didn't detract from liking it

This was so freaking fun and colourful!! Just the right amount of angst, whimsy and pining. Delightful

I think Twelfth Night was a Shakespeare play I did not read in school, so I can’t note the inaccuracies/differences between this story and the play (though it’s a modern retelling, so of course it will have changed some things!), but something was definitely lacking. I agree with most reviewers who say the fantasy-fairy thread of the high school seemed totally unnecessary. Like, students could take magical topic classes, but many attending were humans?

Anyway, the art was 👌🏻🔥 The pages at the dance were especially eye-catching!

Side effect: Now I want to rewatch She’s the Man…
