A quirky bedtime book with brilliantly evocative illustrations of the weather, whether a rainy day or a rainbow-soaked afternoon. Cumulative text is always a winner, and there's a good build-up and climax ending in a joyous downward reversal of sleep.

Easily one of my favorites of all time

I thought the words were quite good and were really fun for my 5 year old "emerging reader" to get comfortable with. Personally, I liked the colors but found the illustrations weird-to-approaching-creepy, but maybe that's just me.

My first day as a children’s librarian I was handed this book, and was told it would be the most important picture book in my story tellers bag. And so it has been. It's a story that builds to a crescendo and then comes tumbling down. It’s about bedtime at grandmas house.

Loved reading this book to my children and my kindergarteners. The artwork is superb as well.

I wanted to read this one because I saw the Woods had recently published a sequel of sorts to this book. The Napping House is beautifully illustrated and has a nice repetitive wording that will appeal to younger readers. I checked this book out from the Mississippi Library Commission.
