Mixed reactions to this one — I think it is mostly well constructed plot-wise, and I like stories about haunted houses, but the dialogue was meh and there were a lot of seeds planted for social commentary that never got fully realized

Excellent book. I would say I wasnt expecting the twists that came but this followed a very crazy book that sort of followed the same concept (only so many ideas in the world - I get it). I enjoyed it very much though.

I didn’t check the trigger warnings before starting Mexican Gothic and honestly if I had, I probably wouldn’t have picked it up. About halfway through some things - especially the sexual assault - got to me so much that I had to stop, watch multiple spoiler-filled reviews and set it aside for a month before I could continue. Since it was a present I didn’t wanna dnf it and now that I’m done, I‘m just glad it’s over. At least now I know that I don’t enjoy this kind of horror.
