En mystisk frÀmling som tÀckt hela sin kropp med tyg och klÀder dyker upp i det lantliga Iping. Snart visar han sig vara en vetenskapsman som lyckats göra sig sjÀlv osynlig, och pÄ köpet blivit sÄ maktgalen att han inte tvekar att döda.
Detta Àr den andra sci-fi-klassikern av H.G. Wells som jag lÀser. Den förra, The Island of Dr Moreau, tyckte jag vÀldigt mycket om och dÀrför var förvÀntningarna höga pÄ den hÀr. TyvÀrr har de inte infriats - Àven om jag initialt gillade boken blev handlingen snabbt ganska lÄngrandig och lÀsningen en seg historia.
Men det ska sÀgas att det finns nÄgot pÄtagligt uppfriskande med romaner frÄn slutet pÄ 1800-talet, nÀr vÀrlden vidgas, grÀnserna för det möjliga tÀnjs ut och framtiden hÀgrar lika oviss som spÀnnande vid horisonten. Den kÀnslan finns hÀr, och Wells arbetar skickligt genom att ta ett enda övernaturligt element och göra det sÄ trovÀrdigt som möjligt genom att förankra det i en kÀnd vardag. Det Àr en vÀlfungerande teknik inte olik den moderna skrÀckförfattare anvÀnder, som t.ex Stephen King och John Ajvide Lindqvist.
Boken har ocksĂ„ viss humor men Ă€r ovĂ€ntat mörk, dĂ€r individ och samhĂ€lle stretar mot varann utan att man som lĂ€sare riktigt hittar nĂ„gon karaktĂ€r att sympatisera med. En intressant bok ur ett litteraturhistoriskt perspektiv, men inte lĂ€sning som berört. đ«„đ«„đ«„

What a weird freaking book. I know it is just because of the time that it was written but, it was just so weirdly laid out. The Invisible Man was off his rocker. The series of events were complete insanity. Old science fiction: what can you say about it really?

An entertaining little book. There are good moments of suspense and humor. Itâs smartly written and does a good job showing how invisibility would impair a person (example: itâd be difficult to walk on stairs if you canât see your legs); and also how scary it would be if you were pursued by someone you cannot see. With that said, it never takes itself too seriously.

Quite honestly I enjoyed it. There are certain qualms that can be had with older gothic literature for me...anticlimactic Endings, slow pace, and a disconnect to society as they often reflect the fears of the time.
With the invisble man I felt myself questioning how one may go about being invisible. The author has this way of thinking that reminds me of nerds speaking about an outrageous hypothetical with real and valid counterpoints. He spent a lot of time thinking about it.
Is Griffin loveable? God no. Do I love him anyhow? Yes. This may not be my favourite story, nor does it make my top list, however I do say I found it a fascinating and enjoyable read that has inspired me in some writing of my own.

Another great and must-read classic. Absolutely enjoyed it and would highly recommend it to anyone.
It's interesting to read it and think about what I would do if I was in the situation of being invisible, or what other people would do. I honestly think that most people, if not everyone, would do some evil. Being invisible does just make being evil easier, and I'm pretty sure that everyone at some point thinks or has thought about doing something bad, something evil, but hasn't done it just because of the possible consequences they'd have to face if caught.
