Great plot and well written. Read it within 2 days and couldn’t put it down.

This book is an absolute MUST READ. A buddy comedy on rails through Leningrad! I can’t even think of anything else to say but READ THIS BOOK!

Loved this book for a second read. It’s a dark, but comedic, war-time coming-of-age. It’s beautifully written with homages to chess and Russian literature. You fall in love with the characters as they embark on their crazy quest. Highly recommend.

4.5. Maybe a 5 after discussion at bookclub...

A coworker lent this to me in return for when I lent him The Martian. I knew nothing about this book, and I was so pleasantly surprised. Love, suspense, humour; this book has all of that and more with an impeccable coming-of-age story to tie it all together. For me, it was unexpected, and maybe that was the best part.
